Alstom, Bombardier sign €6B acquisition memo

French rail transport company Alstom SA announced on Monday it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Canadian Bombardier Inc. and Quebec Deposit and Investment Fund (CDPQ), as part of the Bombardier Transportation acquisition deal worth around €6 billion.

"I’m very proud to announce the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation, which is a unique opportunity to strengthen our global position on the booming mobility market. This acquisition will improve our global reach and our ability to respond to the ever-increasing need for sustainable mobility," said Alstom's CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge.

At the same time, CDPQ, which is currently holding a 32.5% stake at Bombardier, will become the largest shareholder of Alstom with approximately 18% of the capital.
