China inclined to purchase 10M tons of US LNG - report

China is expected to import 10 million tons of liquid natural gas (LNG) from the United States under the so-called phase one trade deal between Beijing and Washington, sources told the Global Times on Thursday.

An increase in gas imports is caused by the coronavirus outbreak that affected domestic gas production in China. According to the report, the Chinese biggest gas companies' LNG sales went down by 20% since the beginning of the outbreak in January.

The United States could become China's second-largest liquid natural gas supplier in 2020 behind Australia if the two countries complete the 10 million tons delivery.
