US confirms 12 COVID-19 deaths, 150 cases

United States Vice President Mike Pence who is in charge of the Administration's Cononavirus Task Force confirmed the number of deaths due to the COVID-19 outbreak increased to 12 during the day on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the number of people affected by the disease in the country stands at 150, with 70 of those in Washington state, the vice president said. He added that a third of the confirmed cases are those who were returned home after being diagnosed abroad. Meanwhile, officials in Maryland followed California's suit and declared a state of emergency as three cases of the virus were reported in its Montgomery County.

Earlier, the country's Golden State declared a state of emergency after its first fatality which brought the nationwide death toll to 12.
