Air France expects to cancel 3.6K flights in March

Air France KLM Group announced on Tuesday that Air France expects to cancel 3,600 flights in March as a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak which has hit the global economy and is having a particularly strong impact on airlines. The cancellations mean that the French airline's capacity will be decreased by 25% in Europe and 13% among long haul flights. The group noted figures for Dutch KLM are at a "similar level."

In February, the number of passengers for the group declined by 0.5% to 7 million as traffic decreased by 0.7% year-on-year. In the same period, the load factor for Air France, KLM and Transavia fell by 2.5 percentage points to 84.4% compared to February last year.

The biggest drop in passenger numbers in February was recorded in the Asia-Pacific region where Air France and KLM carried 370,000 passengers in February, which is 24.5% fewer than in the same month of 2019. The load factor in the region fell by 9.6 percentage points to 80.9% year-on-year.
