WHO confirms more than 150,000 COVID-19 cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday there are more than 150,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection. Europe has become the epicenter of the pandemic, with more reported cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, except China.

The number of confirmed cases in Spain has spiraled to 6,391, with an increase of around 1,500 in 24 hours. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez formally declared a state of emergency in the country on Saturday evening and imposed a nation-wide lockdown from Monday.

Italy noted 21,157 confirmed cases with a death toll reaching 1,441. Iran said on Sunday that 13,938 people have been infected with COVID-19 so far, of whom 724 have died. South Korea reported 76 more cases raising the total number of infections to 8,162. The United States has reported 3,045 COVID-19 cases with at least 60 deaths.
