UK retail sales down 0.3% in February

Retail sales in the United Kingdom decreased by 0.3% on a monthly basis in February, missing the estimates, the UK Office for National Statistics said in its monthly report on Thursday. On an annual basis, the figure was flat, marking the lowest year-on-year growth rate since March 2013.

Food stores registered a drop of 0.4% month-over-month in February while increasing 0.6% on an annual basis. On the other hand, non-food retailing rose 0.1% monthly but it slipped 0.6% compared to the same month last year. Online sales made up 19.6% of overall retail sales in February, up from 19.1% recorded in January.

Meanwhile, fuel sales added 1.4% compared to a month prior while going down by 3.9% on an annual basis.
