Sanofi, Translate Bio team up on developing COVID-19 vaccine

French healthcare giant Sanofi and mRNA therapeutics company Translate Bio will join efforts on creating a vaccine for coronavirus, the companies announced on Friday. In an attempt to develop an effective treatment for COVID-19, the two firms will use Translate Bio's messenger RNA (mRNA) genetic platform.

"Having sufficient installed capacity will be key to satisfy the strong demand for vaccines we will probably see, and based on the experience we’ve had under the collaboration to date, we believe the Translate Bio mRNA platform could help us meet that need," David Loew, Global Head of Vaccines at Sanofi, said in a statement.

The coronavirus infections topped 500,000 worldwide while the global death toll exceeded 24,000.
