Amazon's NY facility staff to go on strike over COVID-19

Workers in Amazon.com's JFK8 warehouse in Staten Island, New York, will go on strike over lack of protections for employees amid the coronavirus pandemic. According to a management assistant at JFK8 and a lead organizer of the strike Chris Smalls, workers plan to "cease all operations" starting Monday due to security concerns as one employee was tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

"Since the building won’t close by itself, we’re going to have to force [Amazon’s] hand. We will not return until the building gets sanitized," Smalls said.

Earlier today, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 59,513 people were infected with coronavirus statewide, while COVID-19 claimed 965 lives in the state so far.
