US pension funds likely to invest $400B in equities - JP Morgan

United States pension funds are mulling putting some $400 billion into stocks over the next two quarters, in a campaign to provide support to the declining equity markets amid COVID-19 pandemic, JPMorgan Chase & Co. analysts said on Tuesday.

In a note sent to investors, the bank estimated that the fund managers will take a rather conservative approach by investing $400 billion buying equities over the next two quarters, as they previously postponed the rebalancing of their portfolios, due to a steep decline in stocks.

In comparison with the last financial crisis in 2008, the bank said that US pension funds have bought $200 billion worth of stocks in the first quarter of 2009, which is equivalent to $600 billion in today's money.
