Wall Street ends sharply lower on disappointing jobs data

Markets in the United States closed with sharp losses on Friday as investors digested worse-than-expected jobs figures for March. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said that nonfarm payrolls in the country dropped by 701,000 last month amid the coronavirus outbreak, marking the first decline since 2010.

The Dow Jones dropped 1.69%. The worst performer was UnitedHealth whose shares dived 4.55%.

The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.41% with American Airlines plunging 6.66% after the company canceled more flights due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The S&P 500 slid 1.51%. Paycom Software, down 8.97%, led the losses.

The euro declined 0.41% against the dollar to sell for 1.08124 at 3:58 pm ET.
