Europe opens higher on virus easing hopes

European markets opened higher on Tuesday boosted by investors' hopes that the coronavirus outbreak in the region could be coming to its plateau. Traders are also waiting for the news about the United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s condition. Johnson had been moved to intensive care yesterday as his coronavirus symptoms worsened. Meanwhile, the German Federal Statistical Office Destatis reported that the industrial production in Germany rose 0.3% in February.

The DAX jumped 1.70% at 9:03 am CET. The best performer was MTU Aero Engines NA whose shares rallied 8.61% at 9:06 am CET. The FTSE 100 rose 0.59% at 9:00 am CET. International Consolidated Airlines Group led the gains as it soared 6.01% at 9:01 am CET. The CAC 40 climbed 1.51% at 9:01 am CET with Accor surging 6.06% at 9:01 am CET.

The euro grew 0.60% against the dollar to sell for 1.08572 at 9:0o am CET and the pound went up 0.62% compared to the US currency to go for 1.23063 at the same time.
