Wall Street closes higher, Nasdaq 100 gains 2%

Shares in the United States ended Thursday’s session on a positive note, following choppy trading with equities moving higher at the open due to investors’ optimism that the coronavirus crisis might turn around in the near future. The Labor Department revealed that more than 5 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, which again caused more uncertainty within the trading public. The tech sector lifted the sentiment higher as Netflix and Amazon finished the session up 2.91% and 4.36% respectively.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.14% at the closing bell, as UnitedHealth Group leading the gainers with 6% up. The Nasdaq 100 gained 1.93% with Seattle Genetics rising 6.7%, while the S&P 500 also moved 0.58% higher as Anthem Inc jumped 8.53%.

The euro slipped 0.63% versus the greenback to sell for $1.08416 at 4:10 pm ET, while the pound lost 0.54% compared to the dollar, changing hands at $1.24513 at the same time.
