Walmart plans to hire 50,000 additional workers

Walmart Inc. announced on Friday that it is looking to hire an additional 50,000 employees after it finalized employing a total of 150,000 workers six weeks ahead of the intended timetable.

Walmart discussed hiring those 150,000 people with more than 70 firms that have furloughed their staff, with new workers coming from "restaurant and hospitality industries and other retailers," Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Donna Morris wrote in a blog post, adding that around 85% of them will work in "temporary or part-time roles."

"Hiring 50,000 new associates will give us the opportunity to provide additional staffing in key areas where it's needed most," Morris said. She also noted that the retailer has had "over 1 million applicants, hiring an average of 5,000 people per day." Last week, the company revealed that it added 100,000 employees to meet the increasing demand.
