Wall Street sinks at open waiting for PPP extension

Stocks on the United States markets plunged at the open on Tuesday with businesses still expecting Congress to pass a new relief bill and extend the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer previously revealed the Senate could pass the legislation today, while voting in the House should take place on April 23.

In business news, Lockheed Martin Corp. and Philip Morris International Inc. have published their financial reports for the first quarter of the year.

The Dow sank 2.29% at the open, with IBM's shares plunging 5.56%. The Nasdaq started 0.97% lower, as Expedia Group decreased by 3.39%. The S&P 500 kicked off by declining 1.72%. Oneok Inc. led the losses, declining 8.19%.

The euro lost 0.28% compared to the dollar to sell for $1.08322 at 9:33 am ET.
