UK to extend job retention scheme until October - report

The job retention scheme in the United Kingdom is expected to be extended until the end of September, albeit at a reduced rate, the Telegraph reported on Sunday.

The British government will reportedly cover 60% of the wages of more than six million workers whose employers have stopped or cut back trading during the lockdown with the updated measure. In addition, staff that has been brought back to work on a part-time basis will have their wages "topped up" by the state, Telegraph writes.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak (pictured) may make the announcement as soon as tomorrow, the newspaper said.
