Boeing CEO: Airlines could go out of business

It could easily happen that a major US airline goes out of business due to the coronavirus pandemic, said Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun on Tuesday.

Asked about such a possibility, Calhoun responded "I don’t want to get too predictive on that subject, but yes, most likely. You know, something will happen when September comes around."

According to Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe, Calhoun "was speaking in general about the uncertainty in the sector not about any one particular airline." The company itself has recently laid off 10% of staff as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but in spite of that has announced plans to restart 737 MAX production in May.
