US durable goods fall 17.2% in April

New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States in April dropped 17.2% to $170 billion compared to the previous month, according to a report released by the US Census Bureau on Thursday, as the coronavirus crisis hit demand.

Excluding transportation, new orders fell 7.4% month on month, while excluding defense, orders were down 16.2%.

Meanwhile, shipments of manufactured durable goods decreased $41.5 billion or 17.7% to $192.3 billion, the report noted. Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods last month decreased $17.5 billion or 2% to $759.9 billion.
