Ex-Minneapolis cop charged in Floyd murder case

Former Minneapolis police officer who was filmed kneeling on George Floyd’s neck before he died, Derek Chauvin, was arrested on Friday and has been charged with murder, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.

"We have now been able to put together the evidence that we need," Freeman said at a press conference following the arrest. Chauvin was charged with third-degree murder, a homicide committed with the intention of causing bodily harm, but not necessarily death, as well as manslaughter.

Floyd, who died at 46, was arrested on Monday due to suspicions he had attempted to use a counterfeit bill. Besides Chauvin, three more officers were involved in Floyd’s violent arrest that took place last Monday. Since then, protests have been raging through Minneapolis, Minnesota’s largest city.
