WH on lockdown after protests reach capital

The White House underwent a lockdown on Friday after riots over George Floyd's death reached the nation's capital, Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Press Secretary in the administration, Judd Deere, confirmed to the USA Today.

According to the news outlet, the US Secret Service ordered the lockdown due to a group of protesters outside the White House gates, leaving several reporters locked inside the West Wing.

The riots started in Minneapolis after Floyd lost his life while being restrained by a Minnesota police officer, an incident that was caught on camera causing a massive response by the public. United States President Donald Trump said earlier the incident should never have happened, adding the Department of Justice is looking into the case despite it being a local issue.
