Hydroxychloroquine 'no more effective than placebo' - study

Hydroxychloroquine did not prevent healthy people exposed to the coronavirus from being infected, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing results of the study conducted by the University of Minnesota.

The results of the study, a first randomized clinical trial of the anti-malarial drug touted by the United States President Donald Trump as a preventive treatment for COVID-19, showed 'it was no more effective than a placebo." The trial involved more than 800 health care workers and first-line responders from the US and Canada exposed to someone with COVID-19.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday it will resume clinical trials of the drug hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus treatment.
