EU, China postpone Leipzig Summit due to COVID-19

German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke on Wednesday with Chinese President Xi Jinping and European Council President Charles Michel regarding the rescheduling of the European Union-China meeting that should have happened in Leipzig in September. The meeting was marked as a "first-ever" between China and Europe focused on climate and trade.

All parties agreed that "the meeting can’t take place at the envisaged time due to the overall pandemic situation."

In a phone call, Chinese President Xi Jinping also confirmed that China stands ready to work with Germany and the EU to strengthen strategic cooperation, uphold multilateralism, tackle global challenges, and jointly add certainty to the current world of uncertainty.
