EU to launch antitrust probe into Apple - report

The European Union (EU) is set to launch an investigation into Apple Inc over alleged antitrust policy related to its e-reading platform Apple Books, Financial Times reported on Tuesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

Canadian e-reading firm Kobo, which is owned by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, reportedly asked the EU to probe Apple's decision to charge a 30% commission for e-books sold through the App Store while promoting its own product, Apple Books.

Kobo's customers are therefore compelled to purchase e-books directly through the company's website, seeking to avoid paying the commission, the report said.
