Iran Navy tests new cruise missiles in Gulf of Oman

Iran's Army began testing a new generation of short and long-range cruise missiles developed by the country's Defense Ministry, state agency IRNA reported on Thursday.

The missiles, which were able to hit targets 280 km away, landed in the northern part of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman, according to the statement issued by Iran's Army.

The Gulf of Oman represents geopolitically a very significant region as it connects the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz, through which almost 25% of total global oil consumption passes on its way to end customers.
