Wall Street opens in green amid vaccine optimism

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Friday as both Chinese officials and German pharmaceutical company CureVac each noted progress in their developments of the coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) President Stacey Cunningham predicted "a very strong second half of the year," and President Donald Trump said the gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2020 will be "the highest in the history of mankind."

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.39% or 362 points at the opening bell's sound as Dow Inc gained 2.74%. The Nasdaq 100 rose by 0.84% with Micron Technology growing 3.47%. The S&P 500 went up by 1.09%, led by Marathon Petroleum Corp with 5.85%.

The euro increased by 0.23% against the dollar, with the exchange rate of 1.12314 at 9:27 am ET.
