Louisiana's reopening delayed over rise in cases

Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards said on Monday the state will postpone its next reopening phase for at least four weeks after seeing a spike in the number of daily coronavirus infections.

"It’s pretty clear that we now have more COVID-19 across the state of Louisiana," Edwards noted, attributing the growth to the increased testing done by health workers across the state. He added the federal state is only one of 23 which saw a surge in cases as of late.

The rise in daily infections comes amid fears of the second wave of the pandemic hitting the nation, which the US President Donald Trump claimed previously the country is "in great shape" to deal with.
