Senate passes sanctions for enforcing HK natl sec law

The United States Senate passed a bill on Thursday to sanction Chinese officials and entities enforcing the controversial Hong Kong national security law. The vote on the Hong Kong Autonomy Act was unanimous.

Earlier, it was reported that the White House asked Senator Kevin Cramer to block the bill that would punish Beijing for infringing on Hong Kong's autonomy.

The legislation still needs to pass the House of Representatives and be signed into law by President Donald Trump.
