Europe opens mixed as pandemic tops thresholds

Major European markets opened in the red on Monday as the coronavirus outbreak remained in traders' focus. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 10 million people tested positive, with around 25% of total cases registered on the continent. During the same period, the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 worldwide surpassed 500,000.

The DAX dropped 0.06% at the opening bell. A couple of minutes into the session, the DAX jumped to trade 0.50% in the green. The FTSE 100 concurrently declined by 0.29% with Coca-Cola Hbc AG losing 5.76%. At the same time in France, the CAC 40 fell 0.36% with Danone as the worst performer.

The euro moved up 0.31% against the dollar at 9:06 am CET, buying $1.12534. At the same time, the pound rose by 0.24% versus the US currency to sell for $1.23673.
