Hong Kong opposition to protest natl security law

Hong Kong's opposition parties and activists announced on Tuesday their intention to protest against Beijing's new national security law on July 1 despite a ban on demonstrations.

Police in Hong Kong banned the annual protest march that marks the 1997 handover of the city to China due to public health risks. The contentious national security law is set to take effect on the same day as well.

Earlier, Beijing approved the measure which has caused increased friction with the United States in recent weeks.
