UK: China adopting HK law is 'grave step'

If the reports on China adopting Hong Kong national security law are true, Beijing has made a "grave step," United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab stated on Tuesday.

"We are deeply concerned by unconfirmed reports that Beijing has passed the national security law. This would be a grave step. Once we have seen the full legislation, we will make a further statement," he said in a press release.

Earlier in the day, local media outlets have reported that Hong Kong national security law would come into effect on July 1 after receiving approval by the Standing Committee of China's top legislative body, the National People's Congress (NPC).
