Air France meeting with unions for job cut talks

Air France is meeting union representatives on Friday to discuss the airline's plans for thousands of job cuts due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, media reported the carrier is hoping to cut 7,500 jobs mostly by asking employees to leave voluntarily, while members of Sud Aerien and CGT Roissy trade unions gathered around its headquarters to protest the plans.

Meanwhile, the French government, which provided Air France with €7 billion in an effort to help out survive the pandemic, urged the airline to avoid any mandatory layoffs.
