UK to put £705 million into borders ahead of Brexit

The United Kingdom is creating a £705 million fund for borders as it aims to increase control ahead of Brexit, the government announced on Sunday. The funding will encompass borders in England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland border plans are set to be announced later.

A total of £470 million will go towards building inland and port infrastructure for border control while £235 will be spent on new Revenue and Customs IT systems, data infrastructure, equipment and staffing.

The UK's Brexit transition period ends on December 31.
