China unafraid of S. China Sea sanctions by US - FM

China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying (pictured) pointed out on Wednesday that Beijing is "not afraid" of any sanctions the United States may impose against it over the South China Sea dispute.

Speaking in a press conference, Hua expressed "hope" Washington would "stop moving in the wrong direction" and "reconsider its position with regard to China."

US actions related to the South China Sea maritime dispute are seen by Beijing as "empty hegemonic habits," she stressed, adding that interaction between the two countries should be "mutually beneficial" and aiming to ensure peace in the area.
