Nine global companies launch new green initiative

Executives of nine companies said on Tuesday they have established a new initiative made to spur the transition to a net zero global economy. The initiative, dubbed Transform to Net Zero gathered Danone, Microsoft Corp., Nike Inc., Starbucks, A.P. Moller – Maersk, Mercedes-Benz AG, Unilever, Wipro and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in order to develop and deliver research, guidance, and focus to enabling all businesses to achieve net zero emissions by no longer than 2050. BSR is serving as the Secretariat for the Initiative.

According to the official press release, additional companies will be able to join as well while "the Initiative intends to complete the outputs of this work by 2025."

Microsoft’s President Brad Smith stated that "no one company can address the climate crisis alone. That's why leading companies are developing and sharing best practices, research, and learnings to help everyone move forward. Whether a company is just getting started or is well on its path, Transform to Net Zero can help us all turn carbon commitments into real progress toward a net zero future."
