Russia may start vaccine mass making by 2020 end

Russia's Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology's Laboratory Chief Ilnaz Imatdinov said on Wednesday the center may start mass production of its anti-coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020.

"According to the data I am familiar with, after registration of vaccine preparations the industrial partners are ready to organize production release of the preparation," he stated. Imatdinov added the test doses have "demonstrated complete safety" and that the number of volunteers participating in the trials will be increased to a hundred.

Earlier this week, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev stated the country could produce enough anti-coronavirus doses to start a mass vaccination at the beginning of 2021. CNN subsequently reported Russia aims to become the first country in the world to approve a COVID-19 vaccine.
