Victoria sets curfew as COVID-19 cases rise

The Australian state of Victoria declared on Sunday a state of disaster due to a rise in coronavirus cases. The authorities imposed a night curfew from 8 pm to 5 am every day in the state capital of Melbourne, which is the second most populous city in Australia.

"The current rules have avoided thousands and thousands of cases each day, and then thousands of people in hospital and many more tragedies than we have seen. But it is not working fast enough," Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews said.

The state reported 671 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, one of the highest daily rises since the start of the outbreak.
