Goldman Sachs names new head of digital assets

American multinational investment bank and financial services company Goldman Sachs has reportedly named Mathew McDermott for its new global head of digital assets. According to CNBC, McDermott will replace Justin Schmidt who ran Goldman’s digital assets team since 2018.

McDermott confirmed earlier that the bank is looking at the possibility of creating its own coin, "its own fiat digital token, but it’s early days as we continue to work through the potential use cases."

He added that "in the next five to 10 years, you could see a financial system where all assets and liabilities are native to a blockchain, with all transactions natively happening on-chain."
