Japan signs supply deal with AstraZeneca

Japan will purchase 120 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca PLC, the country's Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Katsunobu Kato (pictured) said on Friday.

Kato noted that the deal will be put into effect if the vaccine candidate proves efficient in the trials, and added that the first 30 million doses will be supplied to Japan by March 2021 if everything goes according to plan.

As the number of daily infections in Japan started to rise, the country began stepping up the efforts to tackle both the economic and the health aspect of the crisis.
