Clashes reported as police clear protesters in Belarus

Police in Belarus have reportedly used tear gas, smoke grenades, and water cannons against demonstrators in protests that broke out in the nation's capital, according to local media.

The public unrest ensued after exit polls suggested the country's President Aleksander Lukashenko claimed a landslide victory in the presidential election, scoring a whopping 79.7% of the votes. The opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya had rejected the preliminary result, as she believes to have garnered more support.

Dozens of protesters have reportedly been arrested with several injured in clashes with law enforcement, however, health authorities have yet to release official data.
