Europe opens mostly higher with pandemic in focus

European markets started the session slightly higher on Monday, seeking direction as the coronavirus pandemic and tensions between China and the United States continue to simmer.

Russia started production of its COVID-19 vaccine, the world's first registered treatment for the deadly virus. Meanwhile, no company earnings or economic data reports were set for a release today.

The FTSE 100 opened flat. The CAC 40 started 0.29% higher with Pernod Ricard at the top of the chart. In Frankfurt, the DAX was up 0.18% at 9:03 am CET with Infineon leading the gains. The euro advanced 0.15% against the dollar at 9:19 am CET, buying 1.18605. At the same time, the pound gained 0.22% compared to the US currency, to go for 1.31129.
