Europe closes higher on virus treatment hopes
Stock markets in Europe closed in the green on Monday after Novavax revealed that the phase two trials for its vaccine candidate would begin in South Africa and XBiotech announced that it found True Human antibodies that may be used to treat COVID-19. Meanwhile, Sanofi S.A. said that it will acquire United States-based Principia Biopharma Inc. for approximately $3.7 billion.
The DAX was 0.31% higher at 5:30 pm CET with Infineon Technologies AG advancing 3.47% at 5:35 pm CET. In London, the FTSE 100 increased by 0.75% at 5:29 pm CET as Persimmon plc led the gains, jumping 3.12% at 5:34 pm CET. The CAC 40 rose by 0.32% at 5:34 pm CET, with Pernod Ricard, its best performer, growing 2.80% at 5:29 pm CET.
The euro was 0.21% up against the dollar, selling for 1.18682 at 5:39 pm CET, while the pound gained 0.10% compared to the greenback, buying 1.30988 concurrently.
