Trump may push FDA to approve Oxford's vaccine - report

The Trump administration is considering to bypass standard procedures when it comes to vaccine approval by pushing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to give "emergency use authorization" (EUA) to a COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

According to the Financial Times' report from Sunday in which the outlet cited sources familiar with the plan, President Donald Trump is looking to reach a deal to deliver a COVID-19 vaccine to the country's citizens in October, just ahead of the presidential elections.

AstraZeneca is currently conducting the third phase of its vaccine trials in Russia and India. At the same time, the British company has already made agreements with multiple countries around the world on supplying the vaccine as soon as it is developed, including Japan, Argentina and Mexico.
