AstraZeneca starts COVID-19 treatment trial
AstraZeneca PLC started the first phase of the trial of its COVID-19 treatment candidate, the company revealed on Tuesday.
The study is set to determine the safety and efficacy of AstraZeneca's combination of monoclonal antibodies, a synthetically made protein that mimics the natural antibodies and that could potentially counteract the symptoms of COVID-19 in a similar way that the convalescent plasma does.
If proven successful and safe, the treatment could be used to prevent disease progression in coronavirus patients, as well as a means of prevention for people exposed to the virus itself, the pharmaceutical company stated.
