Navalny poisoned by Novichok agent - Germany

Tests performed on blood samples of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny showed traces of the nerve agent Novichok in his system, indicating he was poisoned, the Office of the German Federal Public Prosecutor announced on Wednesday.

Novichok, a binary chemical weapon developed by the Soviet Union, was previously mentioned as a tool behind the alleged poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in the United Kingdom.

Back in August, shortly after Navalny was flown to Germany, Berlin stated it is "fairly likely" he was poisoned, while Foreign Minister Heiko Maas threatened with a diplomatic response in case Moscow was found responsible for a "state-initiated murder attempt." Russia denied allegations Navalny was poisoned and opened an investigation into the case.
