UK to 'remove ambiguity' in withdrawal agreement - govt

The United Kingdom's government said on Monday that it only seeks to clarify the clauses concerning Northern Ireland in the withdrawal agreement with the European Union. Previous reports claimed the UK is planning to change some parts of the agreement.

"We are taking limited and reasonable steps to clarify specific elements of the Northern Ireland protocol in domestic law to remove any ambiguity and to ensure the government is always able to deliver on its commitments to the people of Northern Ireland," a government spokesman said.

He added that the clarifications are supposed to align with the Conservative Party election manifesto, which promised that Northern Irish businesses will have "unfettered access" to the rest of the UK.
