Belarus opposition leaders detained by masked men - report

Belarus opposition politician Maxim Znak (pictured right) was apprehended by masked men, Interfax reported on Wednesday, citing Znak's associates.

A similar incident took place on Monday when another opposition figure Maria Kolesnikova (pictured left) was reportedly detained by men wearing masks, and taken to the Ukrainian border with two of her political allies who were apprehended in the same way. Kolesnikova tore her passport so she couldn't be expelled from Belarus, and her whereabouts are unknown at the moment, the two politicians said during a press conference in Kyiv.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko secured his sixth term in the office a month ago in a disputed election. Soon after, protests erupted in the Belarus capital, while the opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya left for Lithuania.
