China: US sanctions meant to destabilize Xinjiang

Sanctions that the United States is reportedly planning to impose on cotton and tomato produce from the Xinjiang region in China are unjust and aimed at destabilizing China's autonomous territory, the Asian country's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated on Wednesday.

He added that Washington has no right to intervene in the region, and claimed that the US is only using it as an excuse to "oppress the Chinese customers."

A report appeared yesterday, claiming that US Customs and Border Protection officials will block imports of cotton and tomato products from Xinjiang, citing forced labor in the region as the reason for the ban.
