Trump's threats to Iran violate UN's rules - envoy

Threats made by United States President Donald Trump of a military attack on Iran represent "gross violation of the United Nations' fundamental principles," Tehran's ambassador to the organization Majid Takht Ravanchi stated in a letter published on Wednesday.

Writing to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Abdou Abarry, Ravanchi warned about "any further military adventurism against Iran by the US, who must bear the full responsibility for all consequences," and stressed Tehran wouldn't "hesitate to exercise its inherent right to self-defense [...] against any aggression."

Earlier this week, Trump stated Washington would retaliate against any action made by Iran against the US and launch a much more devastating attack if targeted, after it was reported Tehran allegedly considered assassinating US Ambassador to South Africa Lana Marks.
