Moon: S. Korea ready for talks with Japan anytime

South Korean President Moon Jae-in congratulated Yoshihide Suga on his election as the new prime minister of Japan and stressed Seoul is ready for a dialogue with Tokyo "anytime," Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) spokesman Kang Min-seok stated on Wednesday.

"The government plans to cooperate actively with Prime Minister Suga and the new cabinet, thus wisely overcoming the problem related to shared history and strengthening substantive cooperation in economic, cultural, and people-to-people exchange sectors in a forward-looking and mutually beneficial way," Kang said.

Back in June, South Korea reintroduced the complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the export limitations Tokyo had imposed against Seoul, after which Japan reportedly opposed South Korea's accession to the Group of Seven (G7).
