EU urges N. Korea to refrain from nuclear tests

The European Union urged North Korea on Thursday to refrain from "further provocations" through performing nuclear and missile tests after the United States' Center for Strategic and International Studies' (CSIS) warning of Pyongyang's potential testing of a submarine-launched ballistic missile.

"The DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] can never have the status of a nuclear-weapon state in accordance with the NPT [Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons]," the bloc stressed. "Until the DPRK does take these concrete steps, we will continue to strictly enforce existing sanctions."

Earlier this year, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un noted nuclear deterrence guaranteed the country's safety.
