Eurozone's inflation slides to -0.2% in August

The inflation rate in the euro area was at -0.2% in August on an annual basis, decreasing from 0.4% recorded in July, Eurostat's report showed on Thursday. In the same month in 2019, the Eurozone's Consumer Prices Index stood at 1%.

For the whole European Union, the annual inflation rate was at 0.4% in August, declining from 0.9% in July. In August 2019, the rate landed at 1.4%.

Food, alcohol and tobacco recorded the highest annual rate at 0.33%, followed by services with at 0.3%. Non-energy industrial goods inflation rate landed at -0.03% while the consumer price index for energy was at -0.77.
